monday mothers' day report

because i was parent help at guides the other night, i got to see all the lovely mothers' day crafts being made, so the element of surprise wasn't quite there, but miss 10 DID remember to give them to me this year! (she usually hides them so well she forgets to find them again).

missuz 16 and 18 gave me steve martin's biography 'born standing up' which had been on my birthday list. it was so sweet of them to buy it for me. we generally do NOT buy mothers' day gifts. as a family we tend to observe these 'hallmark holidays' with breakfast in bed, a home-made card or gift, and a minimisation of chores for the honoree (like a mum could ACTUALLY go a whole day without touching a dish or a piece of laundry).

so i got my brekky in bed and all the girls ON the bed. miss 16's wording on her card read:

"the man on the wrapping paper is not santa. it is the elf of human rights towards mothers. his name is also (coincidentally) st nick".

i was asked to make this list (last week as an activity at guides) and miss 10 was to pick ONE and make a voucher. these are her annotations...

(i've already ticked off a few)we had brunch out with tara's family, phoned my mum, then took the girls to the local marine life education centre open day. we hung out at home for the rest of the day until meatloaf and roasted vegetables (and gravy!) appeared at dinner-time.

i like to joke that i get my organisational skills, love of chocolate and bad skin from my mum. the truth of course, is that the list could go on forever, and that there is no limit to what we can learn from our mothers. the biggest one for me (in the past 19 years) has to be an appreciation of what it is to BE a mother. i'm guessing that one hits home fairly quickly once we become mums ourselves.

happy mothers' day!

Bib? What do you do when you drink coffee? Or don't I want to know?

Happy Mother's Day!

It seems the rest of the world had Mother's Day this week. We have it x weeks before Easter, it's actually Mothering Sunday and linked to Mary, mother of God or something. Obviously, I just focus on the chocolate and not doing any laundry!

Glad you had a good Mother's Day! Breakfeast cooked by someone else is always good! Love the girls sense of humour with the Christmas wrap!!

"BIB" is miss 10's shorthand for 'breakfast in bed'. you gotta get inside her head lol.

Happy Mother's Day. It looks like it was wonderfully spent. You really favor your mom and that is such a great picture.

For having all those girls in the house y'all sure seem to have it all together. What a great lil' family you have there.
