our team won - and we all got wet!

or my alternate title:

"rugby players and other yummy things"

even though we all knew we were going to get cold and wet, everyone here was very excited about our family outing to the rugby. our team is called the 'hurricanes'. (click there if you're REALLY curious!) wellington is also known as the 'windy city' (i know - like chicago right!!!) so we're always the butt of wind and wind-related jokes.
--------------------------
last night's game was quite important for our semi-final chances. (what, last night's game! aren't they ALL important?) well, only if you don't have a life. yes, rugby is our national game, but i do believe there are OTHER things going on - helloooooooooo.

missiz 16 and 18 hamming it up on the train on the way into the stadium.
if you want it hot and steamy with a bunch of strangers, public transport is definitely the way to go.
---------------------
looking at this shot, i think we would make great 'seat fillers'. you know, like at the oscars. if we ever got the call-up, we'd probably want to change first. 'rainy-friday-night-at-the-rugby grunge' probably won't cut it at The Kodak Theatre.

so we got a little (lot) wet, wet, wet

i can't feel my fingers.... i can't feel my toes...
rain is all around us (that's because the stadium is round and the rain, rather than coming down, tends to SWIRL, so undercover seats aren't really undercover); which make me glad i didn't pay an extra $16 per TICKET for said undercover seats.
it's everywhere we go, except for here, which is the newest cupcake store in town. i'll get to that later. back to the rugby. that guy with the blue ring around him just scored a try. the number 14 on his back means he's a WINGER - he flys along the outside and takes the ball at a run, before sliding in for a spectacular score (well, that's how it's MEANT to work).

he's also hot. i plan to hold onto the dream by never hearing him speak. miss 18 noted that 'rugby players are cuter up close'. and she's right. that apple don't fall far...
and now for the other eye candy i'm sure cupcakes have been hip and cool in the states for a while, but we're a long way south here in kiwiland, so cupcakes are relatively new. that is why they can charge $6.50 per cupcake. oh yes they do.

totally worth it though - check that baby out. it's gone now of course. i ate it. i DID make it last though. i calculated just over $1.05 per bite for mine, which is why i won't be letting DH gob a hole in one (which is what he would TOTALLY do).

in other news, the rain didn't stop, necessitating the cancellation of the first games of winter netball. i was actually a tad disappointed, but then i got to crawl back into bed, snuggle down and listen to the rain, before leisurely rising to a cooked breakfast (care of DH) of scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon and fresh hot coffee - oh yeah -he's a keeper!!!

hey mandy! that new place 'tempt' in the old bank arcade. they are just inside the door at smith the grocer. go early in the day - they are suddenly very popular and had almost sold out of everything!
http://www.tempt.net.nz/

Is that "Tempt" as in the clothing chain? We have them everywhere here! They are good for single season wear... I hope I'm talking about the right thing here...

I would have paid $6.50 for that cupcake too. Actually, if the food is good, I will pay anything. Twice even.

OMG! I can so remember Wgtn in the winter time. I have forgotten what that sort of cold feels like! looks like you had fun though...

You are right Sue cupcakes seem to be the in food right now- there is a place here in St Louis that I have been meaning to take the kiddos to- heck who am I fooling I want to go!!!
Sorry you got all soppy and cold on the family night out :(

hey lynette - we DID have fun despite cold and wet! and tempt is the name of the cupcake place, no single season wear to be found, only single mouthful yummy cupcakes!!!

Hi Sue - it was great to catch up here - I've been on the road again - now home for the weekend and then off again on Monday for the week. How is the new job going? My best tip......don't try to 'do it all'!!
Gorgeous photos - the kids and the cupcakes all!

This all calls for a w00t!

not sure why, but all the fun, rain, Rugby hotties and chocolate cupcakes make me want to "w00t!" which not something I usually do.

$6.50 for a cupcake??? I am not that fond of cupcakes to pay $6.50 for them.

Sorry, but the game looks miserable. I would have had to leave. lol

scrappysue said...

oh kristi! if you were at the game, you would have been one of the people my miss 18 was yelling 'toughen up!' to (as they ran for cover)!!!! we came home, changed out of our wet clothes, put the fire on, had a cuppa and all was well again!!!

pondside - my new manager has ended up hospital and i haven't started work yet! i was totally psyched too, and then deflated. no news on start date, so kinda feel like i'm in a holding pattern...

as for the VERY expensive cupcakes, there are two ladies in the next suburb who also have a cupcake bix and theirs are $3. they also deliver for orders over $60...

That cupcake looked very tastey!! I don't know if I would be able to make myself buy one for that much, though. Who am I kidding? I would totally get one of those. Yummy!!

I think yours is over now, but Happy Mother's Day!!!

Holy Toledo! $6.50 for a cupcake? was it like extra huge or normal size? That is crazy!

scrappysue said...

normal size. 'new' novelty price me thinks. as i mentioned before, there's an 'at home' biz nearby and theirs are half the price. i'm tryin' them - SOON!!!

I've never been to a rugby game but I'm sure the sitting in the rain part is similar to the times I've done it at football and ballgames. I find the best protection are those plastic ponchos over a warm winter coat. For the freezing fingers and toes, the L.L. Bean hand and toe warmers work pretty good, but now I have a scarf with inserts I can heat in the microwave and put in a pocket which really works well for keeping my fingers warm!

Congrats on your SITS day!

I love that you take a lot of photos to go with your posts. (I hardly ever add any) It's nice to see your adventure in pics.
The cupcakes could have totally had a post to theirselves....superstars that they are.
YUMMY.

I am such a fair-weather sports fan. We have season tickets to the U of Michigan games (a big deal around here) but, I only go if it is sunny and warm. I went once in November, and decided to wait in the warm car. What a waste of a ticket!

By the way, the cupcake looks Yummy!!!

Looks like a lot of fun! I wish there was a cupcake store where I live. Well, maybe not. I'd eat way too many of them. Then I'd be broke at $6.50 a cake. And fat.

Joann Mannix said...

They charge a fortune for cupcakes, (which is also the way it is in the states) because they know they've got us. A creation that scrumptious is hard to pass by, no matter the price.

And speaking of scrumptious, rugby players and cupcakes in one post? That's pretty close to heaven, I'd say!

Mmmmm now I want to make cupcakes! Maybe my kids will get a treat for Valentine's Day.

I also want to wake up to my hubby making breakfast in bed! I won't hold my breath though!

Congrats on your team's win :P

Looks like despite the weather you had a great time at the game. :)

And yes your hubby is a total keeper. :)))

I'd go through the rain just to get one of those cupcakes and maybe even a look at one the rugby hotties too.

$6.50/cupcake?! I am so moving to NZ and becoming cupcake baker!

Heather said...

It's amazing the things we'll do for our love of sports, isn't it?

And an aside to the cupcake: "Hello, lover!"

Stopping by from SITS.

Wow, the cupcakes look delicious! And it looks like you guys all had a blast at the rugby game... :)

Cupcakes are quite popular here in Oregon too, and relatively new. We don't have $6.50 each prices, unless they're oversized, but there are several shops here that sell only cupcakes. And they're FABULOUS.

Yum. I'm fairly certain I gained about 3.2 lbs just looking at those cupcakes. I wish I were savvy enough to convert that to kilos for you.

i made some cupcakes today but they don't look as pretty as those! yum!

Marie said...

The cupcakes look good but $6.50?!!? Of course I don't generally buy one cup cake at a time. Seems like we get the whole dozen for $6.50 but not quite as fancy schmancy. :)
