don't shoot me

but i only give sex and the city a 7 out of 10

and that's for the sum of its parts.

the parts i have a problem with:

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much product placement. shameless in fact
  • too much real life. i go to the movies for escapism
  • the fact that poor old harry and smith barely had two lines to rub together between them

LOVED

  • the changing of the seasons
  • how the city of new york is, has, and will always be the 5th girlfriend
  • the affirmation that your girlfriends are one of life's treasures
so there you have it. i may be the only person in the world who thinks this movie didn't live up to the hype, but it's my blog and i can say whatever i like.

and if i saying lots of interesting [chubby, urban, amateur housewife, crazy kiwi, giveaway, tits, bums, rock'n'roll, poop bomb, big thighs, hamsters are cute] words - all manner of folks will come and visit and see just how i feel about the most over-hyped movie of the year.

and speaking of crazy folks, can anyone tell me where the "root folder of my site" is? i'm trying to verify my site through webmaster tools and all i've managed to do so far is yell at my computer that google IS a tool!

Hi Sue!
Well, at least you WENT TO SEE the most hyped movie of the year! I can't even bring myself to do that!

Being a therapist, I have had too many clients (sadly, mostly female) who come in vicariously trying to live like one of the personalities in the TV show: Sex In The City. It messes up their lives. Big time. "Real life doesn't WORK LIKE THAT" is my sad and constant refrain.

One girl spent every dime she made (and every dime given to her) trying to buy designer outfits made by the same designers used on the set. Another dated and slept with only married men. YIKES!

I fear my biases are too great to go and see the movie with anything that resembles an open mind...

However, I admire you for doing so. And for daring to go against the flow regarding your critique of said movie.

Bravo. I applaud YOU.

Hugs,
Paula Clare

I saw Carrie's wedding dress in window of Vivienne Westwood's shop in Mayfair this week. I was more excited at seeing the dress than going to see the movie. Still not going to see the movie - I love SJP but not Carrie, sorry.

yep ladies - carrie was still as pathetic as far as 'big' is concerned in the movie. it was always one of her big character flaws!!!

thanks for the support!

oh and sass - can u take a pic of VW's shop window? i can't even imagine!!!

Way to speak your mind and tell the truth. I never planed on seeing it anyway but thanks for the heads up. Good job.

Dare I say it? I don't like Sex in the City! There, I've said it. I've only ever seen a few trailers and they made me cringe. You can understand why I won't be going to see the film, then.

paula clare's comment is very worrying. It's a bit scary that people can be influenced to that extent by a tv programme.

Thanks for calling in at my virtual party. I had a great day!

I am not afraid of the word "sex", but I have never liked the title and therefore have never seen the show. Two of my sisters liked the TV show, though.
So I was thinking long and hard about what I could send you. I actually thought of it today. It is definitely UTAH. I am not sure when I will get around to sending it, but will you email your address to me? I can't remember if your return address was on your packages. Speaking of which, I received the last one the other day, but did not see it til today (sometimes my mail does not make it to me right away... don't ask!) so THANKS!!! One of these days I will talk to my sister for you -k- (in NYC).

OK - I really enjoyed the movie, but I've been a devoted fan since the beginning. Although, I agree it was not a 10! Something just didn't click - maybe lack of anything from Harry and Smith had something to do with that. I hated that Steve had an affair. Yes, that's often real life, but like you, I have enough real life! Beating Big with the flowers was less than what I would have done in the same humiliated spot and doubt I'd ever get back with someone who did that. It was fine entertainment for an afternoon, but you can't take it too seriously.
Love the picture on your Dashboard! Beautiful!!!

Thanks for the honest review - a lot better than many I've read! I'll probably wait until it's out on DVD as I have no time for evenings out - I'm a slave to the Great Dane's DIY addition. Tonight it's the flooring - yay!!!

I'm probably very much in the minority, but I have never seen a single episode of Sex And The City. I agree, SS...I go to the movies as a means to escape real life. I'm a sucker for happy endings and a hopeless romantic at heart. Movies I could see again and again are Pride & Prejudice, Phantom of the Opera, and P.S. I Love You. Thanks for the review. I think I'll wait so see this flick on DVD.

maybe a minority debra, but there's a few of you out there! is PS i love you the one where he dies and leaves all the letters? i saw that on a plane - still good even with all the background hum!!!

My Sister has yet to comment on it, or return my phone calls. Should I be worried!! lol

Hmmmm.... I had the opportunity to go yesterday - except hubby was at band practice and that meant the kiddos would have been home alone. Not a great look and so I declined the invite. Maybe I'll get it out on DVD. Can't say I was a big fan of the show in the first place.... definitely a bit of fluff so great from that perspective. So how could it not be just "big Fluff" in the movies????
