wordless wednesday

built in 1894, Raukokore Church is one of the most photographed churches in New Zealand, flanked on three sides by the sea in Waihau Bay on the East Cape. inside, a sign announces to visitors, "forgive the smell under the baptismal font, a family of penguins has made it their home and the mother penguin is feeding them fish."

Beautiful pic. Love the story - live an let live, even if it is inside your church - just the way it should be.

That is a tiny little church, is it really used as a church??? Or do just the penguins thank their blessings there?

That's cute. Does it really stink? Do they use it for services? You really did capture some beautiful color!

kristi and gigi - i'm pretty sure it's not used for services anymore, but i'm not entirely sure! maybe for funerals of locals, and as for the smell - i couldn't smell anything!!!

Such a blue sky! Penguins live in the church? How funny! That could liven up the sermons. :) Thanks for stopping by my place!

This photo is gorgeous. I took one of a church in the middle of nowhere one time and it came out similar to this, but this one is awesome!
