wordful wednesday - C is for clutz, not cupcakes

so i went to my cupcake class last night. we made our own frosting and iced pre-made cupcakes.tamara (who owns tempt) showed us how to make a batter and cooked them. we weren't able to ice them because they have to be dead cold, so they were just for eating!

light as air. i swear.

we learned how to make frosting and how to apply it. around and around and off. don't flatten the frosting, and if you're left handed, well, just do it the other way!!! i then spent (i swear) about an hour making EACH of these roses.
ok, that's an exaggeration (the class was only 2 hours total!) but those babies are fiddly! if you don't use enough cornflour, the paste sticks to your hands, but if you use TOO much cornflour, well then you need to use a little water. use too MUCH water, you just end up with a handful of goo. we were given 4 cupcakes to ice and decorate. i only manged to decorate 2, but they ain't bad, don't you think? nothing in nature is exact y'know.

at the end of the night we were given purpose-made cupcake boxes to take home our booty. as i was putting my arm in the sleeve of my coat, i failed to see one of my table buddies standing too close behind me...

[anyone guess what happened next?]

i SLAPPED the box of beautifully decorated cupcakes OUT of her hands. they went flying into the air...and

[you know they did]

landed upside down on the floor. i just wanted to DIE. i almost burst into tears in front of this room full of strangers right there and then.

nic (whose cupcakes i had sent into the stratosphere) was more worried that I was upset, and while she was rubbing my back to calm me down, tamara (our cupcake tutor) replaced the damaged cupcakes with spares (there are always spares!) and placed the undamaged hand-made roses on top.

can i hear you say CLUTZ?

do you think she'll wanna be my table buddy next week?

(this photo was obviously taken BEFORE i embarrassed myself in front of the entire class)
the lighting was awful
as i was kneeling on the floor looking at the smoosh of cupcakes, one of the first thoughts that went through my mind, was this is SO going on my blog!

i have no shame!

oh Sue those roses are cute. As I read about your wee collision I was so there watching it unfold in slow motion lol, my theory is if you cant laugh at yaself who can ya laugh at. I understand that sinking feeling of what you did but hey now you know if it happens again there are spares.

OMG!!! You know, if I had been in the class that night - that's exactly what would have happened to me!! LOL
I clean forgot that this class was coming up. You did a neat job there. ....you might have to let me know the tip you need to get that look in the frosting - plus how to make the frosting.... they really do look just like a bought one!

Food mistakes like that can make me cry! I would have been a basket case.
We made "grass" topped cupcakes for Easter. My kids were so much more skilled than me.

I'm so glad your friend was understanding.

Cupcake class sounds like fun!

Blessings!

Oh, No! I am also a clutz, so I can identify with the overwhelming embarrassment! One of my first meetings with my in-laws - I knocked over a full soft drink into the mother's lap!

Thank goodness for spares!

The cupcakes look wonderful and the roses are lovely. And we all have events like that from time to time. At least the roses survived!

I can not stand how much I LOVE the fact that you are taking a cupcake class!! That sounds completely and utterly fabulous and I want to do that someday.

That icing looks like perfection and well, the fact that you sent someone else's cupcakes flying makes you all that more human and lovable. I'm all about imperfection.... :-)

Yikes! I'm trying to get on a cupcake course this summer, so I'll remember to leave plenty of room when putting my coat on!

OH THE HORROR!

And I SWEAR those cupcakes even winked at me. I so would have eaten them off the ground. True story.

How could anyone be mad at you? I'm glad everything worked out in the end. Your cupcakes are amazing. Did you spread the frosting or pipe it thickly?

Those look divine! And who said we needed to have shame? If blogging isn't to throw our fabulous selves out there what is it for?

You shouldn't, Clutz.

Kidding.
