part of what i love about being a mum, is some of the crazier things we do for our kids.
take today for example. i got up at 5.30AM (on my day off) and drove my 14 year old and her friend all the way across town to the airport, so they could say goodbye to their friend who's moving back to japan.
yes, that's my child and her friend running through the airport in their pjs...
we went straight to the gate and sat around for 20 minutes stressing that we'd got the time wrong; that they'd already left - because they were nowhere to be seen.
after a hunt around the food court, the girls found each other, and before we knew it, it was time to head back to the gate. again.
then at the time when all the normal people were just getting out of bed
we headed home for buttermilk pancakes before school
coz that's what we do
UPDATE: Leina's family is fine. they were diverted away from narita to osaka and are staying with family. they didn't even feel the earthquake!
thanks for all your comments and well wishes!

You definately get the crown for today! Aren't they soooo cute in their jammies - and awesome pancakes!~
I am sorry that they had to say goodbye to their friend. That is very, very sad!
lol now going to the airport in pjs is classic. Gotta love teenagers who don't care what people think (love that). What a cool mum you are doing that for the girls too.
You ARE the best mom ever!
Were you in your PJs too? Because I would have been. At 5:30 AM I would NOT be getting dressed!
Nothing wrong with seeya later. Life is full of "you-never-knows" and goodbye is so permanent.
You are quite a mother -- 5:30 am, and then buttermilk pancakes on top of it? I'm putting you in for sainthood.
Oh, in regards to last weeks conversation, I think I heard fair dinkum on The Man from Snowy River :)
you are such a good mum!!!!
I am NOT a morning person. It would definitely be true love from me to do something like this. So I say you must LOVE your gal and her friends to do this. You are awesome! :)
Yep! That's what we do.
I read this post two days ago, but I've come back to see if their friend is okay following the earthquake. Such a happy, upbeat post must have a happy follow up?
That REALLY was nice of you, and then to make the pancakes, you ROCK. I hope the girls family are all ok!
The "on my day off" thing really stuck out. That is exactly the definition of Mom is - doing whatever needs to be done, especially on my day off. You know, though, I do kinda love it. Makes for great memories. So glad you all were able to say goodbye in time.
Typical teen stuff! And so great to hear they are doing fine.
I'm glad everyone is okay!!!!
