photostory friday - you're never too old to have a birthday cake with pink icing on it

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

when i posted this pic on wednesday, one of my commenters mentioned the fact that i probably needed high speed film to capture the moment. of course she was right!
this was taken directly before the one above...
and this one straight after
so last friday i talked about how the last 19 years had disappeared in a flash. mostly good, although some days my forehead is flat from banging it against a brick wall...but of course all that is forgotten on the morning of the birthday when the entire family clamour on our super king bed for the present opening.

this is one of those traditions we created without really realising it. this time one of the girls pondered the day when we wouldn't all fit on the bed...
a large mink blanket was on her wish list. check!
she couldn't quite believe that we'd given her a new cellphone for her birthday.
out with the old (right), and in with the new!
then it was off to our favourite curry restaurant for dinner. what to have.....
because it's all SO YUMMY!!!
usually, they behave very well in public
usually...

i thought this was a nice spot for an intimate dinner for two...but if anyone was sitting next to us, that wasn't gonna happen!!!
and then there was the birthday cake, that i decorated from the kiddie birthday cake book on a whim. as i was squeezing the 19 candles onto the top of the cake, i pondered when one stops placing 'candles for years'. maybe 21? revisited at every birthday ending with a zero after that?
she managed to blow them all out with one breath
it was vanilla cake with 'made from scratch' frosting. super sweet!!!

Give me cake everyday! I'll bet that day when you don't all fit on the bed comes faster than you realize. So embrace every day!

Looks like a great time. One of my favorite things when I was a kid was gathering on Mom and Dad's bed. Keep up the tradition.

Oh I just can't imagine what life will be like whe my baby girls turn 19. I hope I can give them as special a birthday as your precious girl got.

I simply adore the in-the-bed presents tradition. I may have to steal that one. If you ask me, everything is better in bed!!
