quizzes, windmills and horse-drawn trams

as well as marking the first game of the winter netball season (in which both the girls' teams were roundly beaten) - i hosted my very own quiz show. yep, i'm so addicted to quiz shows, i run my own!

...and have done every year for the past 4 years. me and my 'sound tech' (aka the hubs) actually run a pretty slick operation. lots of great food, company and some pretty fun questions too. everyone seems to enjoy themselves.

it's not that i'm a huge entertainer, it's just that hosting a quiz evening combines my two favourite things in the world...

organising

and

socialising

it's a match made in heaven.

a quick photo before everyone arrives
don't think for a second i did any of the baking. way too much work. it took me 2 hours just to vacuum the lounge and re-arrange the furniture!
ready and waiting for everyone to arrive
and here they are! heads together and trying to figure out the answers!
the 'teenagers' have their own team. (who us?) they actually hold their own very well despite their youth. i certainly don't cater the questions to them!

5 teams of 5 people. some drinking, eating and socialising first, then 6 rounds of questions. some more drinking, eating and socialising. a fun night, and being the insane OCD loon that i am, i'm already planning next year's!

checking out the scores on the excel spread sheet (on the widescreen tv!)
i love knowing all the answers when everyone else doesn't!!!
meanwhile in the bedroom, patsy and wednesday kept all the coats warm
(we didn't let on to anyone that with patsy's advancing years, she's shedding like a yeti!!!)
sunday was a beautiful sunny, warm winter's day, so we headed up the coast a couple of hours. unlike the US, practically ALL of our small towns are STILL on the main road that runs between wellington and auckland.
this is foxton. i'm thinking it was settled by the dutch...i'll check and get back to you on that one!!!
clydesdale horses drawing a tram. how cool is that?
there's something about the clip clop of those horse hooves...

OMG, what fun. You must be a great hostess!

Is netball like our basketball?

Here in St. Louis, we have Trivia Nights. Most are hosted by Catholic churches, but some are hosted by schools or organizations for fundraisers. I love the trivia you learn at these things. I even started my own list of trivia questions. I'll have to email them to you!
Also in St. Louis, we have Clydesdales. But they DON'T pull trams. They only work at Anheuser-Busch and come out for parades or special events. How cool that you get to ride a tram with them!
