back in the saddle again

it's amazing what  a one day scrapping event can do for your creative MOJO.

after creative wonderland recently, i was inspired to return to creative scrappers, a scrapping site/blog i used to frequent and complete sketch challenges through.

me likey sketch challenges

trina mcclune, who co-hosted creative wonderland, is on the DT for creative scrappers.

so i'm back in the scrapping saddle, and have completed 2 out of the 4 sketch challenges for november.  i had high hopes of completing all 4, but 2 remain unfinished :(

photo from our trip to sydney back in april
that's the girls leaping off the steps of the sydney opera house

and here's my girl at the end of the netball season, holding her trophy
her team won their grade
the shot on the left shows miss 12 umpiring a lower grade netball game
she designed the team hoodie herself you know!

and here's the sketches:

thanks for the inspiration CS!!!

last week at the cleavers

miss 12 got the rest of her braces fitted

her glee at getting christmas-theme coloured rubber bands was quickly replaced by pain as they started doing their work

as this isn't my first rodeo, i already had supplies of juice and berries at the ready for SMOOTHIES, which would make up her liquid diet for the next 4 or 5 days.

the great thing about smoothies, is that you can sneak in stuff like this:

where i made MILK-based smoothies (as opposed to juice-based ones),  i also added a raw egg - and before you freak out about me feeding my child raw egg, know that you're more likely to get struck by lightening than you are to FIND a contaminated egg, let alone contract salmonella.

so, even though she had VERY sore teeth for several days, her diet was outstanding!

the next day our dishwasher BLEW UP (after only 3 years!)

so we (and when i say 'we', i mean the kids)
(coz the cook doesn't do dishes in this house - whether or NOT they're done by hand!)

got to do this...

they don't seem TOO unhappy about it tho

well, 50% of the workers don't seem to mind

they do dishes by hand every january when we camp, but this is the first time they've had to do it at home

and the damage was minimal..

what's happening at your place this week?

Get Picky Sketch Challenge #2

and the crafting mojo rockets on!

this is my take on get picky's 2nd sketch challenge

this is me and my cousins circa 1965 (ish?)
i think i was slightly older in the photo on the left than the right
i can imagine my mother and my aunt insisting the boys play with me, and i'm impressed that they did.  an annoying 'little baby girl' cousin probably didn't fit into their cowboys and indians, or 'hardware store' games at all!!!

here's the original sketch:

and while i'm sharing, miss 21 and i made this necklace for a friend of mine yesterday.
i took a 'teaser' photo and emailed it to her and she was very happy - imagine how happy she's going to be when i give it to her tonight!

EDITED TO ADD:

she was VERY happy!

getting my craft on

another layout to share

my 'scrapmates' (scrapbooking email group) got together for high tea at martha's pantry in wellington back in june.  i love our group, and am particularly grateful for our 'leader' kris, who posts questions every day for us to answer.  i'm learning new things about my friends every day - it's very cool.

today's questions:

'something about yesterday'
'the friend that i've had the longest'
'what's on the floor of my wardrobe'
my favourite toy as a child'

i look forward to these questions EVERY DAY!

back to crafting...

this album has been in the UFO pile for several years.  it was a crafting connection class i did; never finished the album, and the photos dated, so i decided to make tara a mini album with pictures from my surprise visit back in september.

it was pretty quick because the papers were already cut, and the 6x6 pages fit right into 6x6 photo sleeves page protectors (which incidentally, i plan on using for memorabilia etc in my december daily.

then TODAY i made this very cool album

very simple yet effective
it's clever because it opens from both sides which are secured using cable ties

transparency on the front

i love the photos on the left and right
miss 21 took the photo (on the left), drew a copy (on the right) which i then printed.

i was lucky to have so many photos of wellington already.  miss 21 took a lot during her first year at university.  the time-consuming part was converting them all to black and white.

if i made this album again (and i probably will!) - i'd use 6 x 6 photos (as opposed to 4 x 6), with a portrait orientation.  this would work really well where one photo is cut down the middle and put over 2 pages.

i had a huge selection of photos (as u do when they only cost 12c per print!) but used a lot more portrait than landscape.

still REALLY happy with the result, and i had the tutor all to myself!
she's a big fan of mini books, and i can't wait to attend her next class.

wordful wednesday: mum's house is always the best

there are lots of reasons to look forward to going home

pretty much all the things you hated about LIVING with your parents, are the BEST things about returning and visiting your parents

even though you're almost 48 years old, your mother still :

- reminds you to take a coat when you go out
- wash your hands before dinner
- not to sniff

you get the idea!

as a grown up child however, you get to head straight for the FULLY STOCKED pantry and have at it!

(all those containers are pretty much full of home baking):

banana loaf
chocolate fudge

to name a couple of my faves

there's also a TONNE of chocolate

and not one, but TWO flavours of TIM TAMS hiding in there

AS WELL AS LOLLIES!!!

oh, and in in case you're wondering where all the RETRO TUPPERWARE went...

...my mother has it!!!
