wordful wednesday: photographing the photographer

so i had my hair cut and coloured today, and as USUAL, i went outside to photograph myself and my 'NEW DO'

little did i know though,

that i was being photographed myself!

i love that miss 19 did this tho

it really is something only the daughter of a prolific photographer and scrapbooker would do!!!

photostory friday - the last time

as mentioned in the last post, miss 17 got a mercy call from the hockey 1st XI to be their goalie in their play-off for 3rd and 4th, last friday night

as she was 'donning' her gear, it occurred to me that it would be the last time

she's in her final year of college (high school) and this would be her last game of hockey for the school
so, like all good photo-crazy scrapbookin' mumma's, i grabbed my camera

she already had the 'kickers' on before the thought occurred to me

and even though she's tolerated me shoving a camera in her face over the years, she didn't want to co-operate tonight
she kept turning away from me and i got rather dizzy walking around in circles trying to take these pictures!!!

the buckles on the kickers can be tricky
'bloomers' already on - purple shin pads next
chest vest thingee - i was having to chase her for the photo by this point...
elbow protectors
shirt
neck brace
my hands! i need something in my hands!
giant mits and stick will do!
here she is taking the field.
she'd just run through the guard of honour they made for her with their sticks
waiting for an opposition penalty corner
yeah. it was a shitty night weather-wise
but these girls are tuff
and practical
ya can't get past me!
yay - we won! 6-1
good game, good game, good game.....
that's what they say as they file past each other
team manager thanking her for all her 'years of service'!!!
and a couple of random shots to finish - my new red hair!!!

got my hair cut yesterday - the perfect opportunity to play along!

those pink bits are actually fire engine red!
so weird that the camera captured it that way
they love me at the salon - i'm always willing to try new colours
so - green scarf from the warehouse
brown/grey merino top from glassons
blue shoes from mischief and 3/4 jeans from MAX

what are you wearing today?

this groovy idea was started recently by a new blog friend and PSFer tiaras and tantrums - and seeing as i have a fabby new hair 'do' to show off today - i thought i'd join in!
just got back from the 'salon' hehe

t-shirt from portmans - probably $25 (can't remember!)
khakis were $7 from a thrift store. they're practically new and fit really wellbought the shoes on my recent trip to NY - payless shoesource on 34th - $22
new cut and colour - $155 - eeek!!!

coincidentally the purple in my hair matches my t-shirt!
the necklace was a gift from my sister

OK - that was fun!

wooo hooooot wednesday

  • went and saw the spring tulips at our local botanic gardens. here's a sneak peak. pics are straight out of the camera. narry a photoshop tool has been near them - not bad huh? i'll do a PSF soon!
  • my new hair colour's almost as vibrant as our over-grown lawn!
  • 4 sleeps until NY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • school holidays rock! no alarm clocks, no routines, no school lunches. waaaaaaaaaay less driving.
  • daylight saving began on sunday and it was a gorgeous sunny day too!
there's this one (man, it was SO cold that day!)
this one
and this one. i did a PSF on these photos
this paper's doubled-sided, and as cute as the front is, it just about broke my heart not to use the back! (anyone else feel like that?)

here's my last layout as september's guestie for the little shop of sketches. it's been a ton of fun!
i was asked to do ONE MORE layout for the little shop of sketches, and i'll post that in a few weeks.

happy wednesday y'all!

all this, AND she can type fast too

went for something a little different with my hair colour yesterday.

i likey a lot. i take a rather cavalier approach to my hair, and i always like to try new styles and colours. i figure it's just hair and that if i don't like it, i can change it or wait for it to grow out. i understand others don't share the same view and that's cool!

i apologise in advance for 1) the state of my windows, and 2) looking like a beet, but hey - at least the sun was out!

from the side
from the top

cheesey smile
and the all-important pout
well, that pretty much covers every angle. i'm totally in love with it. can ya tell?

so i won the 'blue' section for the photo of the month over at wine on the keyboard. not bad for a first timer! this month's theme is 'captions'. not my strong suit, however i'll enjoy seeing what everyone else comes up with.

and then there was my first job interview since 1908.

i should start by telling you that OVERALL, it was an incredibly positive and uplifting experience. i started by filling out a myriad of forms; declaration of health and safety, declaration of criminal record (or lack thereof), declaration of ACC (accident compensation corporation. that's what we have in place of suing the skin off each other). then there was a declaration to declare that everything i had previously declared was true and correct.

sheesh, how the workplace has changed in the last 20 years.

then there was a spelling test, word comprehension test and proof reading test. ace, ace, ace. then i got to blow them away with my freaky fast typing.

123 words per minute. oh yeah. they went mental. i was all like 'well, it's my thing. what can i say.' i did think they were going a little OTT until i saw the woman next to me test at 27 WPM (ooops).

then i was tested on MS power point, excel and word and now have a rating which is very cool. i was tested on excel last which was my worst result. i should point out that i had been 'testing' for 2 hours, i was late to pick up kids from school and i REALLY needed to pee, so my concentration was a little 'off'.

the interview itself was very interesting. they work hard to work up a profile that best suits the work they have on offer, although my interviewee did NOT get herself off to a great start. she takes one look at my CV and says 'i see you haven't worked in a reeeeeeeeeeally long time.'

once i resisted the urge to leap across the table and bitch-slap her clear across the room, i mumbled something about babies and 'investing time in my family'). my now-working mother-of-2 girlfriend told me to say that!)

i discovered the next day that employers are prohibited by law to ask outright why a candidate haven't been working, so her statement was really a question in disguise. just like dr phil says. on reflection i think it's rather amusing and all a bit redundant. 1+1 should make 2 - it's all there on my CV!!!
to tell you the truth, i hadn't realised it was all going to be so complicated! i didn't assume i would walk into a job - well, i didn't know WHAT i thought really. anyway, i'm glad to have started the process and will probably make appointments with a couple more recruitment agencies and take it from there.

a layout, a new 'do' and kids that make us proud

did this layout for the #8 wired fortnightly challenge. i'm REALLY happy with it!
my new 'do'! went dark this time. ya like it?

our school beneath the mountain (it's a line from the school song). pretty cool huh? the school brought the cross country forward a day because the weather is meant to crap out big time tomorrow. wise choice wasn't it? check out that sunshine.

see that tv tower on the right? tara and i walked all the way across the ridge from the left. just gorgeous. i'm going to do a photo diary next time we head up that way.
i have put orange daisies over miss 10's friends' faces, coz i can't be bothered phoning them all to ask if it's ok to post their pics! here they are doing the 'kentucky fried chicken and pizza hut' song while waiting to start. do you guys have that?
and they're off!
on the home stretch! miss 10 is not running alone because she's streets ahead of the pack, however she would like you to know she finished a creditable 19th, and that she's very happy with her performance.
i love the way the boys are high-5ing her as she crosses the line
i'm done! i'm happy, now can we please find some shade!
